Sea and Air Men’s Golf Club
Board of Governor’s Meeting
The meting was called to order by President Ted Sholl at 1255.
Members not present: Bill Scarborough, Bob Totten, John Gilliland.
The minutes of the December meeting were approved and the Treasurer’s report was accepted.
Sea N Air Pro/Superintendent: Following the heavy rains the course is in OK condition but more rain is forecast before the weekend tournament. Carts will need to be on paths or rough. Decision to postpone tournament can be made Friday night. If the tournament is postponed it can be rescheduled for the next Saturday. The schedule for aerification will be coordinated with our tournament schedule. Projects: 1) Areas at the ends of cart paths will be scraped and resodded 2) Sand will be removed from the bunker on the right side of the 18th green. 3) Driving range may be seeded. 4) A red line will be painted around the lake on #3 to aid in determining point of crossing into the hazard. 5) Tee box on #8 may be lowered to level of surrounding ground. Brian Smock, a local on the Nationwide tour, set a new course record of 64. A suggestion was made to retain an amateur record.
Special Projects: Boards are up to date. Will continue to keep LeGrand as the club record holder. Memorial tourney winner will not have permanent recognition.
Weekday Play: No report. The chairman was complimented on implementing recent improvements in organization and updating.
Handicap: The new GHIN system has had some surprises but all are being worked out. There are 237 active members, 71 have not renewed as of this date.
SCGA Rep: No report.
Tournament: 56 have signed up. $5 fee will be assessed for no shows. Handicap flags on carts- Need to be considerate of driving close to the greens. Rob is including a section on the website for golf courtesy. This item will be included.
Senior League: First match is against Chula Vista, last year’s division winner. Split 1 and 1. Second match was postponed by weather. Will post information on fund raiser tournament for wounded service members.
Entertainment: The chairman was complimented and thanked for a very successful annual board dinner.
Webmaster: Tourney pairings will be posted with a notice of possible weather postponement. If tourney is postponed email will be sent to on-line registrants and calls to those that do not have an email address. Pro Shop will answer phone in inquiries. Web page has a navigation button and a screen that won’t go away when using IE. If anyone else has noticed that let Rob know. On line sign up for tournaments has a number of advantages over the pencil and paper sign up sheet. John will revise the sign up sheet, though, to include more information.
Rules: No report.
Publicity: Results of the December tournament were published in the Coronado paper.
MWR Rep: Meeting of January 15- Projects underway: overseeding, repairing ruts on 10, 14, 15, tree trimming, removing “tules”. Snack shack hours are 9-1600 but will be adjusted seasonally. Stretching units are in temporary location. North Baker major renovation not before late 2010 and will be closed for a year. Bumpy greens at Sea N Air will be addressed. Driving range improvements could impact for 6 months.
