MINUTES OF THE MARCH 24, 2010
Sea and Air Men’s Golf Club
Board of Governor’s Meeting
The meeting was called to order by President Ted Sholl at 1303 hours. Rob Crenshaw and Gene Kemp were excused absences.
The minutes of the February meeting were approved and the treasurer’s financial report through February 2010 was accepted.
Reports:
Sea and Air Pro: #10 green is being treated for 14 days with chemicals which accounts for the yellow circles. Aeration of greens will begin April 12. Improvements to the driving range are being discussed and possibilities include, sod, seed or grass targets. Members having a preference should give written comments to Matt for forwarding to Jim Higgins. One comment for Matt was the lack of water around the course. Matt responded that water containers are labor intensive, marshals have water to provide to golfers. Jim Wilson passed compliments from the County Seniors that the course is in excellent condition.
Treasurer: The audit for calendar year 2009 has been completed by Terry Rogers. No discrepancies were found and Bill was complimented for the systems he has implemented. A copy of the audit report is attached. Our fiscal year is awkward for collecting member dues in one year and paying SCGA in the following fiscal year. However, our fiscal year coincides with changing offices on the board. A federal tax return was prepared and submitted as a non-profit with less than $25,000 in revenue.
Weekday play: There have been no complaints or problems to resolve. Stan Weir’s long association with the club was noted as his 92nd birthday is near. A suggestion to plant a tree was met with a discussion on the difficulties in getting memorials approved. Consideration will be given to presenting a plaque at the November meeting. In the meantime Terry will buy a cake to share at weekday play.
Handicap: 4 more new members have joined the club.
SCGA Rep: No report.
Tournament: 44 players have signed up. Pairings/tee times will be posted on-line.
Senior League: Record is 4 won 6 lost and 1 tie. Beat Cottonwood. Next is San Vicente.
Entertainment: Next event is Member-Guest. Discussion included a play off for the championship but was eventually agreed that the logistics would be daunting. A plaque for the champion was suggested but more thought needs to go into how the champion will be determined.
Webmaster: No report.
Rules: No report.
Publicity: It took 5 weeks for the results of the February tournament to be printed in the Coronado paper.
MWR Rep: No report.
Old Business
Prizes for Member-Guest: Committee continues to work on this.
Mixed tournament: Will be Sunday May 16. There will be a blind draw for teams. Sign up sheet at Men’s Club bulletin board.
Ad Hoc Committee to Review Constitution: Approval was given to adding language to standardize recognition of individuals at the annual Memorial tournament. Specifically, the following is to be added to Appendix 1, section 6: “Club members shall include all past and present members. The memorial tournament will be a permanent item on the Board of Governor’s December meeting. Individuals who are to be recognized will be identified and the form of recognition approved at this meeting. All future newsletters should ask all members to inform the board of individuals who should be recognized.”
Review of additional sections continues.
New Business
Lifetime members. The constitution provides for 1 lifetime member for each 50 active member. Since we now have 7 lifetime members we are not able to recognize additional worthy members.
Miscellaneous
Members continue to drive carts too close to the greens. Peer pressure from other members is requested to correct that behavior.
Island play: Coronado won but there are two more meetings.
Respectfully submitted,
Bob Hansen, Secretary
